Playing Tabletop Role-Playing Games (RPGs) with youth can be an absolute blast! Whether students play as heroes delving into ancient tombs in Dungeons and Dragons or pilot space ships in Stars Without Number, thousands of out-of-school time facilitators have helped students build bonds and create stories. While it is true that playing RPGs is an intrinsically valuable experience the question becomes this: can we get more from playing RPGs with youth? Can we use these games for character development? To fold in elements of the Utah Core? During this presentation we will cover the basics of what an RPG is and how to play them, resources & tactics to give your RPG activities more intentionality, and cover the broad range of RPG options to find which games best fit for any given program's culture and needs.
