Afterschool leaders and workers encounter a lot of joy and satisfaction with offering quality experiences for children. At the same time, running an afterschool program or working for one can be stressful - school administrators and teachers are not always supportive or cooperative, parents may have different ideas about what their children should be doing, and many children may be suffering from trauma, poverty, or other challenging situations that can be troubling to witness. Mindfulness can help increase resilience and reduce stress levels while cultivating self-awareness and awareness of others, self-regulation, better decision making, and emotional agility. Learn simple mindfulness techniques that will help keep you focused and more available in your work for and with children.
